Olark Alternatives

Unmetered AI is genuinely easier to budget. The question is whether $4,800 a year is the right shape for your store.

Olark sells human live chat at $29 per agent a month and its AI Website Agent at $400 a month billed annually, with unlimited conversations and no token costs. That is honest, predictable pricing, and it is also the highest entry point among the tools compared here. For a small store, the same job — answering product, delivery and order questions from your own data — starts free and reaches unlimited conversations at $7.49 a month.

What Olark gets right

Flat and unmetered is a real virtue. Once you are on the AI Website Agent plan there is no conversation counter, no credit balance and no per-resolution charge, which removes an entire category of budgeting anxiety and end-of-month surprises. Olark also has a long track record as a live chat product and lists integrations with Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, BigCommerce, Squarespace, WordPress, Drupal and Webflow, plus HubSpot, Salesforce and Zendesk.

The catch is where that flat price sits. $400 a month billed annually is $4,800 a year with one human seat included, and each extra agent is $29 a month on top. For a team with volume to justify it, that can work out cheaper than per-resolution pricing. For a store handling a few hundred conversations a month, it is a large fixed cost for a job that smaller tools do for the price of a coffee.

The comparison that matters: what triggers the bill

Where a cheaper tool is genuinely equivalent

For an online store, most of the work is answering questions that already have published answers: what fits, what is in stock, what delivery costs, where the order is, how returns work. A retrieval-based assistant trained on your catalogue and policies does that as well as an expensive one, because the hard part is the data rather than the model.

Vatdi syncs natively from WooCommerce, OpenCart 3 and 4, PrestaShop, Magento, Shopware, Joomla and Drupal Commerce, and answers live order-status questions once the customer supplies the order number plus the email or phone on the order. Olark's published integrations are storefront and CRM connectors; its site does not claim order-status lookup, so "where is my order" is not a self-service answer there.

Where Olark is still the better buy

  • You want one predictable invoice and hate meters. Unlimited AI conversations at a fixed annual price is exactly that.
  • Human chat is the main event. $29 per agent is competitive for staffed live chat with a mature product behind it.
  • You need regional routing, custom workflows or an SLA. Those live in its custom enterprise tier and small tools do not have them.

If none of those apply, the deciding question is simply how much you are prepared to pay for the same answers.

What to check in any demo

Chat tools demo well and differ badly, so it is worth having a fixed list of questions to put to each one. These five separate the products quickly.

  1. Ask it something only your store knows. A specific product detail, a delivery threshold, a warranty term. If the answer is generic, it is not reading your data.
  2. Ask something your site does not cover. The right behaviour is to say so and offer a person, not to improvise a plausible answer.
  3. Ask where an order is. Check whether it can look the order up, and what it asks for before revealing anything.
  4. Ask in another language. Store customers do; the reply should come back in the language of the question.
  5. Take over as a human mid-conversation. Watch how the handover looks to the customer, whether the transcript follows, and what happens outside your published hours.

Every product in this comparison passes some of these. The differences show up on the second and third, which are the ones that decide whether you can leave it unattended.

How to test the difference before committing

Because Vatdi's free plan includes the AI, catalogue training, order lookup and handover, you can run the comparison rather than reason about it: connect the store, let the catalogue sync, and put the widget on the pages where questions actually arise. Fifteen conversations is enough to see whether the answers are grounded in your data.

Two numbers tell you what you need to know after a week: how many conversations ended without a person, and what the AI could not answer. The second list is usually a missing policy paragraph rather than a model limitation, and it is the same list whichever vendor you eventually choose.

Frequently Asked Questions

Live Chat Only is $29 per agent a month. The AI Website Agent is $400 a month billed annually, which is $4,800 a year and includes one seat with unlimited AI conversations and no token costs.

No. It publishes free trials for live chat and for the AI agent, and a website preview tool that needs no signup, but there is no free tier.

Vatdi's Grow plan at $7.49 a month is also unmetered — unlimited conversations, unlimited teammates, AI included — at a fraction of the fixed cost.

Its site lists storefront and CRM integrations but does not publish an order-status lookup. Vatdi does this on seven self-hosted platforms with an email or phone check.

For store questions the limiting factor is the data, not the model. What matters is whether the tool reads your catalogue and policies and refuses to guess when they do not cover the question.
