Chatfuel Alternatives for Website Chat

Chatfuel is a Meta-channel tool. If your customers ask questions on your site, here is what to look at instead.

Chatfuel is built for Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp: comment-to-DM triggers, broadcasts and a shared social inbox. Its free Light plan has no AI at all, and AI answers start at $49 a month on AI PRO. If the conversations you actually need to handle happen on your own product pages, a website widget trained on your catalogue is a better fit — and considerably cheaper. Vatdi starts free and $4.49 a month.

What Chatfuel is good at, honestly

Chatfuel is a Meta Business Partner and it shows. Comment-to-DM automation, keyword triggers, broadcast re-engagement and a shared inbox across Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp and TikTok are all things a website widget cannot do at all. If a meaningful share of your orders begins with someone commenting on a reel, that machinery is the product and no site chat replaces it.

Two things make it a poor fit for storefront support. The free Light plan excludes AI entirely, so the free tier is automation without answers. And no numeric usage limits are published — the plan pages describe unlimited contacts and messages under an unstated fair-use AI allowance, which makes cost at scale hard to verify before you sign up.

What to compare on

  • Where the questions arrive. Social DMs and website chat are different products. Buying one to do the other disappoints in both directions.
  • Whether AI is in the base price. Chatfuel puts it behind AI PRO at $49 a month; several alternatives include it on every plan.
  • What the AI is trained on. Answers grounded in your catalogue and policies beat a general model with a prompt.
  • Order questions. "Where is my order" is the most common post-purchase message; check whether the tool can answer it from your store rather than sending a link.
  • Published limits. A plan with no stated numbers is a plan you cannot budget.

Five alternatives, and who each suits

Vatdi — a website widget trained on your own store. Free for 15 conversations a month with every feature on; $4.49 for 150; $7.49 for unlimited. Native plugins for WooCommerce, OpenCart 3 and 4, PrestaShop, Magento, Shopware, Joomla and Drupal Commerce sync the catalogue and answer live order-status questions. No social channels at all.

ManyChat — the closest like-for-like if you want to stay on social. Free covers 25 active contacts; Pro is $29 a month billed annually and is where Manychat AI starts. Cost scales with audience size rather than support volume.

Landbot — for designed, branching flows rather than open-ended answers. Free covers 100 chats a month with zero AI chats; Starter is $36 a month billed annually and includes only 100 AI chats, then EUR 0.10 each.

Tidio — a website-first tool with a free tier and its Lyro AI sold as a conversation-metered add-on.

Crisp — flat per-workspace pricing with unlimited conversations, sensible if you want several channels in one shared inbox and can absorb $45 a month at the entry tier.

If you are moving the conversation to your website

The migration is mostly content, not configuration. What made your DM automation work — the answers you had written into flows — becomes knowledge the AI retrieves instead of a decision tree you maintain. In practice you connect the store, let the catalogue and policy pages sync, upload the FAQ you were already using, and set the two or three quick replies that mirror your most common DM openers.

The part that surprises people is what stops being work. There is no flow to rebuild when you add a product line, because the catalogue sync carries it. There is no separate answer to maintain per channel, because there is one channel. And there is no per-contact cost, so a busy week is not a billing event.

What 300 conversations a month costs

Take a small store handling ten support conversations a day, all on its own website, with two people who answer the ones the AI cannot.

ToolMonthly costWhat drives it
Chatfuel AI PRO$49Flat, with an unpublished fair-use AI allowance
ManyChat Pro$29 annual, $39 monthly2,500 active contacts, then $0.05 each
Landbot Starter$36 annual plus AI overage100 AI chats included, then EUR 0.10 per AI chat
Vatdi Grow$7.49Unlimited conversations, both people included

The gap is not really about discounting. It is that three of these products meter something scarce — AI chats, active contacts, a fair-use ceiling — while a website assistant meters conversations and can afford to make them cheap. Prices as published on the vendor's own site in September 2026.

Where Vatdi is the wrong answer

If your customers genuinely buy in Instagram DMs, Vatdi will not help: it has no Instagram, Messenger or TikTok integration; WhatsApp is the one messaging channel it covers, through your own WhatsApp Business number. It also has no outbound broadcasts, no CRM connector, no Zapier app and no webhooks. It is a website widget with a team inbox, sold cheaply, and that is the whole product.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes. Vatdi's free plan includes AI answers, product suggestions, order lookup and human handover, capped at 15 conversations a month. Chatfuel's free Light plan has no AI; that starts at $49 a month on AI PRO.

Only ManyChat among the tools here is a genuine like-for-like for Meta channels. Vatdi does not connect to Instagram; on WhatsApp it answers through your own WhatsApp Business number, without Chatfuel's broadcasts or comment-to-DM triggers.

The Light plan is free without AI, and AI PRO is published at $49 a month with a stated discount for annual billing. Numeric usage limits are not published; the plan pages describe a fair-use allowance.

Vatdi does this on WooCommerce, OpenCart 3 and 4, PrestaShop, Magento, Shopware, Joomla and Drupal Commerce, once the customer gives the order number plus the email or phone on the order.

Most of the work is content rather than configuration: connect the store, let the catalogue and policies sync, upload the FAQ you already use. An afternoon is realistic for a small store.

For Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp automation — Chatfuel's home ground — ManyChat is the direct competitor, with Tidio for teams that want those channels beside website chat. For a website chatbot that answers from your own content, Vatdi competes on a different axis: no broadcasts or comment-to-DM, but AI answers included from $0 and a WhatsApp channel on your own number.
