AI Chatbot for Abandoned Cart Recovery

What a chat widget can honestly do about carts left behind — and what needs an email tool instead

A chat widget recovers carts by answering the question that stopped the sale, in the seconds before the tab closes. It cannot email someone who has already left — that needs a recovery-email tool with the shopper's address. Vatdi answers delivery, stock, sizing and returns questions from your own store data, offers a coupon when one genuinely applies, and hands the conversation to a person when the answer is not in your content.

01

Carts are abandoned for reasons a chat can answer

Most abandonment happens at the moment a shopper meets an unanswered question. Shipping cost that only appears at checkout, a delivery date that might miss an occasion, uncertainty about whether a return is free, a size chart that does not say what it needs to. None of that is a payment problem. It is an information problem, and it happens while the visitor is still on the page.

That window is where a chat widget is useful and an email is not. The question gets answered from the same shipping page, returns policy and product data you already publish, in the visitor's own language, before they close the tab.

02

What Vatdi actually does at that moment

  • Answers from your own content. Delivery times, shipping thresholds, returns windows and product details come from your synced catalogue, policy pages and uploads — not from a generic model guess.
  • Checks stock and price honestly. Stock display is optional, so a lagging sync never promises availability you do not have, and sale prices only show while the sale is running.
  • Offers a coupon when the conditions fit. You configure the coupons; the AI offers an active one when the conversation matches its rules, rather than discounting every visitor by reflex.
  • Suggests alternatives. If the item is out of stock or wrong for the use case, it can suggest products from your catalogue, including best sellers ranked by units actually sold.
  • Hands over to a person. When the answer is not in your content, the conversation goes to your team with the full transcript, and the visitor is told honestly whether anyone is available right now.
03

What it does not do, so you can plan the rest of the stack

Being clear about this saves you a disappointing trial:

  • No exit-intent trigger. Vatdi does not watch the mouse for a leaving gesture or pop open on its own when someone moves to close the tab. It shows a greeting and an optional follow-up bubble after a delay you set.
  • No recovery emails or SMS. Once the visitor leaves, Vatdi has no way to reach them. Recovery sequences belong to your email platform, which already has the address from checkout.
  • No cart-contents monitoring. The widget does not read the cart object of your store, so it cannot say "you left three items behind".
  • No checkout inside the chat. The AI links to the product or the cart; the purchase happens on your store, in your checkout.

Used honestly, the chat is the first line and your email tool is the second. The chat saves the sales that are still on the page; the email chases the ones that are already gone.

04

Where the answers come from

Answer quality is entirely a function of what the AI has been given. Vatdi trains on a crawl of your website, pasted URLs, PDF, Word, CSV, TXT and Markdown uploads, manual text, FAQ imports from CSV or Excel, and a native catalogue sync on WooCommerce, OpenCart 3 and 4, PrestaShop, Magento, Shopware, Joomla (VirtueMart and HikaShop) and Drupal Commerce. Products, categories, policy pages and shipping content sync automatically and stay in sync as you edit them.

Every reply is graded from 0 to 10 with plain-English advice on what to fix, and the insights report lists the questions the AI could not answer. Those two together tell you exactly which missing page is costing you carts.

05

A realistic setup for a small store

  1. Connect the store so the catalogue, categories and policy pages sync.
  2. Upload the shipping and returns pages if they live outside the catalogue, plus any size or compatibility guides.
  3. Set the welcome message to name the two things shoppers ask most — usually delivery time and returns.
  4. Add one or two coupons with real conditions, so the AI has something concrete to offer a hesitant buyer.
  5. Set agent hours honestly, so the widget only promises a person when one is actually there.
  6. Read the insights report after the first week and add the pages behind the unanswered questions.

What it costs

The free plan holds 15 conversations a month with every feature switched on, including the coupon offers, product suggestions and human handover described above. Starter is $4.49 a month for 150 conversations and also removes the "Powered by Vatdi" badge. Grow is $7.49 a month with unlimited conversations and unlimited knowledge items. There is no per-seat charge on any plan and no per-resolution fee, so a busy month costs the same as a quiet one.

Frequently Asked Questions

Not by itself. Once the browser is closed the chat has no way to reach the shopper — that is what recovery emails are for, and they need the address your checkout collected. A chat widget recovers the carts that are still on the page, by answering the question that stopped the purchase.

No. There is a greeting message and an optional follow-up bubble after a delay you choose, but nothing that watches for a leaving gesture and interrupts. If exit-intent is central to your plan, pair Vatdi with a tool built for it.

Yes, from coupons you have created, with their real conditions. It offers one when the conversation matches those conditions rather than discounting everyone, and it never invents a code.

Order status lookup works on WooCommerce, OpenCart 3 and 4, PrestaShop, Magento, Shopware, Joomla (VirtueMart and HikaShop) and Drupal Commerce. The customer gives the order number plus the email or phone on the order, and the answer comes live from your store.

No. The free plan includes every feature, capped at 15 conversations a month, and does not ask for a card. The only thing a paid plan unlocks is removing the Vatdi badge from the widget.
